Students Participate in a R.I.S.K.y Activity
Ms. Coultas' health students welcomed a guest speaker today. April Littig, the youth development educator for University Extension for Calhoun, Cass, Greene, Morgan, and Scott counties, led the students into an activity called RISK: Real Issues of the Sexual Kind. RISK is a simulation activity and guided discussion that provides teens with a visual understanding of the costs associated with sexual behavior. The simulation tells a story in which each participant becomes a character. The characters face issues related to sexual activity including pregnancy, STIs, HIV/AIDS, abstinence, contraceptive use, drug and alcohol abuse and rape. Students also got to try on the Empathy Belly to simulate the weight of a 7 month pregnant woman.
